shrimp cocktail: homemade recipe

Ingredients

1 lb shrimps, peeled and deveined
1 cup ketchup
2 tbsp horseradish
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
1 medium tomato, diced
1/2 cup cucumber, diced
Salt and pepper to taste
Lemon wedges (for garnish)

Directions

1. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add a pinch of salt.
2. Add the shrimps to the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and are cooked through.
3. Drain the shrimp and quickly transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let them cool for a few minutes, then drain again and pat dry.
4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, and hot sauce (if using). Mix well.
5. Add the finely chopped red onion, chopped cilantro, diced tomato, and diced cucumber to the bowl. Stir to combine.
6. Fold the cooked shrimp into the mixture until they are well coated with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
7. Cover and refrigerate the shrimp cocktail for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
8. Serve the shrimp cocktail in individual glasses or a large serving bowl. Garnish with lemon wedges.
