Rice with ham: homemade recipe

Rice with ham is a delightful dish that marries the richness of ham with the comforting embrace of fluffy rice. Cooking begins in a large pot where olive oil is heated over a medium flame. The aroma starts to develop with the addition of finely chopped onions, sautéed until they turn translucent, releasing their sweet essence. Minced garlic joins the mix, infusing the pot with its fragrant allure within just a couple of minutes.

The centerpiece of the dish, diced ham, is then added. As the ham warms, its savory juices meld with the softened onion and garlic, creating a delectable base. Another splash of color and flavor comes in with the diced red bell pepper, adding a subtle crunch and sweetness after a few minutes of cooking.

Next, the star ingredient, rice, enters the scene. Each grain is thoroughly coated in the infused oil, ensuring even cooking and a harmony of flavors. Chicken broth is poured in, transforming the pot into a bubbling cauldron of goodness. The dish is seasoned with salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper for a bit of heat, which can be adjusted to personal taste.

With a gentle boil, the pot is covered and simmered on low, allowing the rice to cook and absorb all the flavors, becoming tender and flavorful over about 15-18 minutes. A handful of frozen peas is incorporated close to the end of cooking, lending a pop of color and a sweet bite.

After a brief resting period to let the flavors meld, the rice is fluffed with a fork and a sprinkle of fresh parsley adds a vibrant finish. This warm, hearty dish can be served as a satisfying main course or a savory side. Packed with protein and nutrients, Rice with ham showcases a masterful blend of flavors and textures in an easy-to-make meal that can be enjoyed any day of the week.
