iced cake: homemade recipe

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup milk
2 cups powdered sugar
3 tbsp cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.

2. In a medium bowl, cream together 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of butter until light and fluffy.

3. Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time, then stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

4. Combine 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 3/4 teaspoons of baking powder. Add this mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well.

5. Stir in 1/2 cup of milk until the batter is smooth. Pour or spoon the batter into the prepared pan.

6. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick. The toothpick should come out clean.

7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

8. For the icing: in a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder.

9. Add 1/4 cup of milk to the powdered sugar mixture and stir until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.

10. Once the cake has cooled, spread the icing over the top and let it set before serving.
