Fried Venezuelan Empanadas Cheese (with bread flour): homemade recipe

Ingredients

2 cups bread flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 cup water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 egg
1 ½ cups white cheese (grated)
Oil for frying

Directions

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the water, vegetable oil, and egg.
3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
6. Divide the dough into small egg-sized balls.
7. Flatten each ball into a disc using a rolling pin or your hands.
8. Place about a tablespoon of grated white cheese onto the center of each disc.
9. Fold the dough over the filling to form a semi-circle, pressing the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a tighter seal.
10. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
11. Carefully add the empanadas to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
12. Remove the empanadas from the oil and drain on paper towels.
13. Serve the fried empanadas warm.
