baked potatoes: homemade recipe

Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp salt
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1 tsp onion powder (optional)
1/2 cup sour cream (for serving)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for serving)
1/4 cup chopped green onions (for serving)
4 tbsp unsalted butter (for serving)

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly under cold running water.

3. Dry the potatoes with a clean towel.

4. Poke each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.

5. Place the potatoes on a baking sheet.

6. Drizzle the olive oil evenly over the potatoes.

7. Sprinkle the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using) over the potatoes.

8. Rub the seasonings and oil all over the potatoes to ensure they are evenly coated.

9. Bake the potatoes in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.

10. Remove the potatoes from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.

11. Cut a slit down the center of each potato, being careful not to cut all the way through.

12. Gently squeeze the ends of each potato toward the center to open them up.

13. Place a tablespoon of butter inside each potato.

14. Top each potato with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese, and some chopped green onions.

15. Serve immediately.
