Apple strudel: homemade recipe

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp vinegar
4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1 cup breadcrumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted (for brushing)
Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Directions

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
2. In another bowl, mix the water, vegetable oil, and vinegar. Pour this mixture into the well in the flour mixture.
3. Stir until a dough forms, then knead it on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
4. Form the dough into a ball, cover it with a cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
5. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, mix the apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, raisins, and walnuts.
6. On a floured surface, roll out the dough as thin as possible. Then carefully stretch it by hand to make it even thinner. It should be almost transparent.
7. Sprinkle an even layer of breadcrumbs over the stretched dough.
8. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the breadcrumbs.
9. Carefully roll the dough over the filling, using a cloth to help lift and roll it. Tuck in the ends as you go.
10. Place the strudel seam-side down on a greased baking sheet.
11. Brush the entire surface with melted butter.
12. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the strudel is golden brown.
13. After removing from the oven, let it cool slightly.
14. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
